Linux Firewall
Is it possible to use the Linux Firewall to block the ports however to allow selected 'users' to be able to use FTP connections?
Questions and discussion about Webmin or any of the services it manages.
Is it possible to use the Linux Firewall to block the ports however to allow selected 'users' to be able to use FTP connections?
Can I simply follow the procedure as mentioned here "https://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/system/os/debian-wheezy-to-jess..." or do I have to upgrade to wheezy first and then to jessie?
Hi All,
First of all, thanks everybody for helping me out every single time. Great forum, and great product (virtualmin & webmin)!
I`m tuning the security of my server and I wonder if there are any recommendations / other users experiences with the use of Webmin > Networking > Firewall.
I see it comes with a default set of rules. Is this a safe list and is this good for basic security, or are there other ways to improve this? For example, I see rules for ports FTP and FTP-data but I only use SFTP and SSH, should I delete those rules to improve security?
What I'm actually trying to do is to set up an "Administrators" group that simply has access to everything that all Virtualmin's users have and nothing more. I suspect it won't be possible to do this precisely, but the closer I can get the better.
Hello,
I did the following: Go to system -> file system backup -> add new backup
backed up from: /var/www/app/Controller to: /var/backups/source-backup/test.tar tape size: 300kb and Split across multiple files? Yes
I run the backup and it backs up fine into: test.tar1, test.tar2, test.tar3 and test.tar4
I download to my computer via ftp and try to open these files in winrar, 7zip, it will open the contents of test.tar1 only and break, it will say "Unexpected end of archive"
Hello
I can´t find any log of failed logins in phmyadmin.
I install phpmyadmin by script install on http:domain.tld/phpmyadmin
I would like to know where I can found failed login error for configure Failed2Ban.
When some user have more then 3 failed logins, failed2ban, ban user 15minutes for exemple.
We are migrating sites to Linode Cloud servers using VirtualMin. So far so good. glitches along the way are being solved. but the new "boxes" come with no MTA configured.
I ran
apt-get mailutils apt-get sendmail # may as well have two options
then went to WebMin --> Servers --> PostFix
WebMin said something had yet to be installed... so I ran that
then tried this from terminal:
echo "this is a test from Postfix" | mail -s "Testing Mail From ShivGurudeva" brahma@hindu.org
I was setting up a server with some firewall settings and seem to have locked myself out. This is the first time I have used "webmin Linux Firewall" to do the configuration settings.
disable webmin System Information for user how do?
Hi Everyone,
I'm pretty sure my server has been hacked as it is using 500-1000gb of bandwidth a month more than normal and load average is 100+ by several /sbin/syslogd processes. I'm very new to this and have no idea what to do other than checking some basic spots.
I checked my apache logs and found repeats of this text (error.log attachment)
A bit more investigating, I found this in my wordpress log
