Handling of different shells...

Forums:

Hello,

I am a big fan of the rssh shell: Not the "restricted shell" as in a restricted shell upon login, but the one found at http://www.pizzashack.org/rssh. It gives an administrator a granular choice in whether a login can do the following:

allowscp allowsftp allowcvs allowrdist allowrsync allowsvnserve

in other words, once I enable ssh access, I can still control what a login can do. it is implemented by setting the shell to /rssh, and setting up a rssh.conf file.

Webmin PostFix server: e-mail bounces with error "User unknown in virtual alias table "

Forums:

Hi,

I have a VPS up&running with multiple virtualservers configured in VirtualMin.

Now I have added an e-mail user to one domain. In the grid with users I see this:

Name IMAP/POP3/FTP login ... Login access info info@ourdomain.com .... Email only

I can login to roundcube for this domain, with the user info@ourdomain.com. I can also sent mails from this account. However, the account cannot receive mails.

Server with all email turned off?

Forums:

Hi

Apologies if this is a stupid question but I'm setting up a new server and no longer want any mail server running.

All hosted websites will use an external mail delivery system (Google Apps/Zoho Mail etc) so postfix becomes redundant and due to recent hacks on another server with spam delivery I'd rather keep postfix turned off completely.

Filesystem backup to remote server

Forums:

Hi Jamie,

I am running into this problem whenever I try to use the filesystem backup to backup to a remote server over SSH.

sh: 1: /usr/lib/tar/rmt: not found tar (child): user@123.123.123.123:/home/do/backups/midnight: Cannot open: Input/output error tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I have added this under the backup options for Path to rmt on remote system /usr/sbin/remote

hide "System Information" in webmin

Forums:

I am trying to hide "System Information" in webmin. The one that is available on left side above logout button.

It tends to webmin version and kernel and sometimes customer abuse it if they find loopholes.

If someone can help me on how to disable that so users can't see that it would be great.

Also even if I try to disable search option that search box doesn't go away.

Thank you

Webmin Linux Firewall Refresh

Forums:

Webmin allows me to put domain names into the firewall rules (e.g. source IP). When the rules are deployed the domain name gets translated to its corresponding IP address in iptables. Because these domain names are dynamic IP addresses, iptables needs to be refreshed periodically in order to pick up any address changes. Is there a way do automate this in Webmin so that iptables gets refreshed every few hours or so?

outgoing spam e-mail

Forums:

Hi

I receive so many bouncing e-mails like this in reply to messages allegedly sent out from accounts that do not even exist. I doubt there might be a virus or spamware in the system or someone is using the server to relay e-mails. I have Postfix 2.6.6 but I'm not sure how to proceed!

Thanks for your help

Folders for Filesystem Backup

Forums:

Hi, I have a vps with Webmin+Virtualmin but it does not have a backup type "snapshot". I discovered that documenting Webmin has a function called "Filesystem Backup" that are copying system also via FTP to another server. Currently the entire system with the Home where are allocated websites weighs 13GB and is a Ubuntu Server 14.04 64bit. I want to know which folders are imported you can make backups? I think mainly the /home/ would be the first folder and which folders are essential? This is the list of folders on my vps:

webmin Virtual Memory explained?

Forums:

When I reboot my server, the Virtual Memory, according to the webmin home screen, is 0, but thereafter it only increases. I would expect that the figure would fluxuate in relation to server load, but it doesn't seem to.

As I'm writing this, my real memory is only about 50% utilised, yet my virtual memory isn't 0.

I've tried using a number of command line tools to try and determine what the webmin figure is comprised of but without success. I'm obviously concerned about running out of memory over time.

Unix gLib Vulnerability; Does WebMin push the updates?

Forums:

We just got this notice of a core vulnerability from our Dedicated Server host (GoGrid) ...

Does web min automatically push system updates like this to the core OS..? i suspect not, but I wanted to ask first. We are on CentOS6

Security researchers have announced a vulnerability affecting Linux based operating systems (CVE-2015-0235). All versions of Linux are potentially vulnerable. This vulnerability may allow an attacker to remotely execute arbitrary code on any unpatched systems.
