Hey all,
I'm running a default Vmin Pro install on Debian Etch, with Dovecot and Postfix. I'm also pretty much a complete novice when it comes to serving email.
Currently it takes several minutes before an email received by the server is delivered to the mailbox. I'd like to reduce this delay as much as is practical. I'm often on the phone with a client as they send info, attachments, etc and waiting 5 minutes for it to be received in my email client is a little disruptive.
Hello,
I have a server, and I added a virtual server for someone who handles a domain.
My server is hosting just the website. However, sendmail, etc is also there. This user is trying to use sendmail to try and send email via his scripts. Obviously, it isn't working.
I was wondering if there is a way to somehow make it to work so the email gets sent.

Through experience, these are some of the ways you could toughen your server security. Feel free to add your suggestions and tips.
1. USE STRONG PASSWORD.
That means having a combination of alphabets (in upper as well as lower-case), numerals and signs. The password should preferably be sufficient long enough, e.g. more than 8-10 characters.
Very poor passwords: admin, administrator, root, password, server, mysecretpassword, manager Poor passwords: 1982, joe72, john69, kingkong Good passwords: Ml69m2oo!_Dta1, k40c*F#@K\sY24$
Though it's pretty simple to set up the iptables firewall in Webmin, I've been looking for an "easy button" firewall/security plugin...
Here's one that looks promising: http://www.configserver.com/cp/csf.html
...looks like it has some good features, including warning/reporting.
...anyone have experience with it?
At the moment, I use > Webmin > Servers > Read User Mail to check emails to 'root'.
How do I set mail forwarding to an external email address? I can't find it anywhere...
Thanks in advance.
when I start my computer, I already have bind running.
[code:1]2333 bind Sep23 /usr/sbin/named -u bind -t /var/lib/named[/code:1]
but when I go to BIND DNS Server, it shows that BIND has not started. So when I start it, this appears
[code:1] 743 root Oct05 /usr/sbin/named -c /etc/bind/named.conf[/code:1]
Is there a way to let webmin know of the already running bind?
I also do not know If the settings I am placing via webmin are affecting both or not.
thanks.
I receive this messages in my root mailbox:
It happens in batches. I would receive the same message every few seconds for a minute or two. Then again in 5 or 6 minutes latter.
Subject: Cron <root@vds01> /etc/webmin/virtual-server/collectinfo.pl Message body: Already running
I was getting those when I upgraded Virtualmin from 3.43 to 3.44. Then they stopped when I upgraded from 3.44 to 3.45. Now they started again, after I upgraded from 3.45 to 3.46.
Joe, what can I do to stop this?
When I go to the "Linux firewall" module in the "Networking" group, it ak s me te setup he firewall. I choose "Block all except ports used for virtual hosting, on interface:" on eth0. But when I activate that firewall a client ftp can't login until he set the client to use active. I know this is a firewall rule I have to add but what one? Pls help me!!
