Bind 8 module for Bind 9

Forums:

Hi,

I would like to know, does the bind dns module included in webmin works with bind 9 version? I have seen there is a third party bind 9 module, but I prefer the included webmin one, so I would like to know if I can use this one, or if I should use the third party one.

Thanks

How do you properly configure remote MySQL administration?

Forums:

I've set up a mysql cluster, and my remote API node is at 172.16.10.30. I can connect to that machine and issue api commands, so I know that much works.

I've gone into the module configuration, and changed it away from localhost to 172.16.10.30. I get the error that MySQL is not running on this system, cannot list databases....?

Any idea what I need to do?

Backing up Bind issues

Forums:

I am having some problems when backing up bind. I am running bind 9.3.1 and they started using symlinks, which symlink your files like this: /var/named/(contains symlinks to /var/named/chroot/var/named) /etc/(contains symlinks to /etc/named.conf and /etc/rndc.key)

Now when i backup bind via WEBMIN it backs up the files in /var/named, /etc/named/conf and /etc/rndc.key which are all symlinked files. I tried a couple of things with the module config and still doesn't work properly. Can anyone help me with this?

Is Dovevot authentication method using Plain-text secure?

Forums:

I noticed that Dovecot is set by default to authenticate using Plain-text. Is this really OK from a security standpoint?

When I try to include other authentication methods, e.g. Digest-MD5, Cram-MD5, APOP, Dovecot server stopped working.

What's the deal? Can we up the security barrier up a little on this?

Thanks.

Webmin version 1.330 ??

Forums:

If you follow this[a href="http://webadminmodules.sourceforge.net/?page=System">link</a> you will find that all the standard modules at the bottom are only compatable with Webmin 1.330 dated 27 Feb, yet the current version is only on version 1.320.

If you try to install any of these modules on an older system, it will tell you that you need version 1.330, which we can not download yet.

Is an update Webmin on the cards in the next few days.

Thanks, Ian

Fresh Fedora Core 5 Install and Webmin

Forums:

Will try to be concise but brief.

I used to use webmin on FC2 via my hosting company.

They removed webmin after security issues last year.

I am now on a virtual server running FC5

They say if I want Webmin, I must install myself.

I have tried this SEVERAL times and everything appears to go OK.

When trying to log on via browser on port 10000, the browser times out.

IPtables have been changed accordingly.

Auth:PAM has been installed.

Miniserver is up and running.
