Got a problem not covered by the docs? Don't know where to look in the docs or in the forums? All of the other forums over your head? If you're new to Virtualmin, this is the place for you.

Setting defaults

I would like to setup the defaults for database names and admin name.

I would like a database prefix to be the name portion of the domain name (like mydomain in mydomain.com). Where and what do I set to get this default behavior?

How does one create 3 databases by default. I.e. mydomain_cart, mydomain_backup and mydomain_private?

Documentation as a PDF?

Is there a PDF of the documentation for this beast? The online stuff is hard to use when having to search for things. Once a search is done, the back button seems to loose context and there's no way to look at a result and then return to other results to look at another?

Having a PDF would allow me to search for the words/phrases I'm interested in so I can learn how this thing works.

DNS setup

What is the best way to setup DNS for 1) A shared IP 2) A dedicated IP

I'm currently in a test environment so I can't have multiple nameservers (I.e. something acting as a slave).

Should I simply setup the '*' to point to this test server's address on the public name servers?

What should the 'Servers' entry be for the resolv.conf file? Right now I have it for 'locahost'.

thanks, tony

Monitoring and email alerts

This is a two part question.

Our Virtualmin server is located at a co-location facility. We have monitoring setup to notify us whenever a website goes down.

1) How can I change the email address that the alerts come from? They are currently coming from "webmin@localhost.localdomain"

2) We receive many false alerts every day and ended up shutting the monitoring off on all but he most critical sites. What are some steps I could take to reduce (eliminate?) the false positives?

MY IP ıs routing to old address !!

Hi

I asked about rDNS yesterday because I am having problems the DNS for my server.

I initially set up my server with the main account as heavyhoster.net My registrar is opensrs.net and I set up a record with them to point to my two IP addresses.

i.e. ns1.heavyhoster.net -- > 65.23.129.163 ns2.heavyhoster.net -- > 65.23.129.167

After a year I decided not to use my .net domain and to just use my heavyhoster.com domain.

Setting Reverse DNS

In VirtualMin under the BIND DNS server there are Reverse Address Records.

I was going to set these up but my dedicated server providor said that THEY have to make changes to the Reverse records because they do not delegate them.

So how is it that I can see and edit them on my BIND DNS if it is something they do.

Also - why do they keep that to themselves as I want to check and ensure all my DNS is correct especially to ensure email goes out properly.

Thanks for any input. David

How to set up reseller a/cs with correct DNS info

Hi

I wish to set up my DNS and the Users so that I can have two resllers that can set up their own virtual servers. The clients (owners of the VS) should see their respective reseller as the nameserver and if possible also see that name in the System Hostname.

Background: I have a dedicated server from Rackmounted. They have given me two IP addresses. 75.23.139.44 and 75.23.139.47

I have registered many names with iPower.com and they use opensrs.net to manage the domain names including assigning the name servers.
