Got a problem not covered by the docs? Don't know where to look in the docs or in the forums? All of the other forums over your head? If you're new to Virtualmin, this is the place for you.

Users can't delete files created by Apache.

Hi, I'm running virtualmin 3.66 GPL on Ubuntu 8.04LTS for myself and some coworkers personal sites. I'm having some permissions problems. When a user for instance installs Gallery2 all files are owned by the user. Files created by Gallery itself are owned by the apache user and because of that the user can't delete those files. Have I missed a setting somewhere or misconfigured?

Thanks for your help.

Installing Redmine under virtualmin

Does anyone else use redmine, and have it working under virtualmin? I can install redmine by hand without any problems, and most of the details work, up until the point where you use apache proxies to map to the mongrel process. When I try to turn on the proxy_http module, it breaks apache and I have to turn it back off and start apache again.

I did see this older thread :

Remote file access

I would like to set up a couple folders on one domain to act as a remote share, for different groups.

I initially thought that webdav would be the way forward, however, this gives open access to the domain root, which is not good!

Is there any way I can set up remote folders, which can be setup with a password, either dav or ftp?

Anybody get Majordomo working with Postfix?

Has anyone gotten majordomo to work with postfix?

I noticed the mailman thing and that looked pretty cool - but I have written a half dozen or so apps specifically for majordomo that I'd like to continue using for my mailings.

I'd be willing to try to port my apps over to Mailman, but the main problem with that is it APPEARS that mailman stores it's list of email addresses in a nontext encoded file ... majordomo just slaps them in a plaintext at /usr/local/majordomo/lists/listname, which is real handy for doing automated work with the lists.

Procmail "Insecure dependency" error & no spamd

Hi,

I installed Virtualmin on CentOS 5.3 using the install.sh script. Everything has been working great, EXCEPT:

Incoming email does not contain a x-spam header. I also am getting tons of spam. So I think spamd isn't being called. I also turned logging on with clamav, and saw no entries in syslog or the clamd log file. This leads me to conclude spam/virus filtering is not working.

After a little debugging, I noticed the following error in my logs when receiving messages (I censored the email addresses):

long way here

i have a centos 5.3 vps. in the begining the installation of webmin + virtualmin went good. then when i was playing with it, i tried to add a new virtual host and i got an error regarding perl. i had to uninstall webmin, reinstall webmin, install virtualmin through the webmin module manager.

i have 2 domains : maindomain.com and hosteddomain.com

the document root for the maindomain.com is : /var/www/html the document root for hosteddomain is : /home/123/public_html

SMTP setup

Hi all,

I'm able to receive email, but, sending fails with "relaying denied IP name lookup failed [192.168.0.69]."

As you can see, I'm trying to send from a computer on the dmz part of the lan through the public facing server.

In any case, I don't want Sendmail to make this check AT ALL regarding client ips. I want to base relaying strictly on user authentication, but this is trickier than I thought it would be - either that or I simply can't find that one lucky checkbox!

install.sh fails

Hi all,

I'm running Fedora. One virtual host created. static ips. webmin installed. All works well.

ran install.sh (Even though, why, YES, I did see the warnings about running with existing virtual hosts) and it failed.

The message was

FATAL - Fatal Error Occurred: Failed to download http://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/fedora/9/i386/virtualmin-release-late....

SMTP/LDAP authenticaion not working

After setting up LDAP authenticaion, IMAP account access from client (Evolution on Ubuntu) works fine, however SMTP does not. I have read through the PAM setup, tried changing the SMTP authenticaion from PAM to LDAP, tried some debugging tools and testing with Telnet. I consistently get the error:

SASL PLAIN authentication failed: generic failure

(If I change my client to LOGIN authentication the word PLAIN changes to LOGIN but everything else is the same.)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Outbound mail showing wrong email address

I have setup my mail server and it sends and receives mail fine with one exception. The outbound mail address shows the wrong domain.

I have played with the setting "What domain to use in outbound mail", but it doesn't work the way I expect.

Here is the scenario:

I created a new virtualhost for the domain acmecorp.com (apologies to the real acme corp). Users are test1@acmecorp.com etc.
