Help! (Home for newbies)

Hi all, I have a strange issue, I wanted to have the "IP Address Allocation" visible in the front page just after logging in to virtualmin, I went to "Configure this page" and make sure that the option "IP Address Allocation" is checked, I refreshed the system information and it's still not showing up. Did I miss something? I have 2 other virtualmin servers and they are fine.

Any fix for this issue? Thanks, Nousa

I was wondering if I can add an additional user to each entry created for a virtual server in /etc/group.

Basically I want to make sure my "backup" user has access to all the virtual servers, since I don't want to run the offsite backups as "root". I saw the option for changing the "apache" account name which is provided access to the group, but when I tried changing it to "apache,backup" it doesnt let me.

Any way I can achieve this without manually editing the /etc/group file each time?

I'm getting the error: "Failed to save custom shells" when I am modifying them.

I checked "Custom shells below .." and selected just "/bin/false" for Admin and Default and just "/dev/null" for Mailbox.

Am I doing something wrong?

The os is debian Squeeze
the installer gives the following error:


Failed to detect operating system


/etc/issue

Debian GNU/Linux squeeze/sid \n \l


cat /etc/debian_version

squeeze/sid


How can I install it?

After running the virtualmin package updater on all virtualmin related packages, I am getting the following error when running the configuration checker:

"Virtualmin is configured to setup DNS zones, but this system is not setup to use itself as a DNS server. Either add 127.0.0.1 to the list of DNS servers, or turn off the BIND feature on the module config page."

I recently installed virtualmin and managed to create a virtual server and everything worked fine.
But today, I tried to create a new virtual server and I get this:

Creating administration group hundred ..
.. done
Creating administration user hundred ..
.. done

Failed to create virtual server : **blank**

For some reason, the actual error is blank and so I have no idea what has happened and what I have broken since I added the previous virtual server.

Any Ideas?

the topics said it already - are you giving SSH login to your customers? I tend to say no - because they dont land in a jail - or did i miss where i can configure running jails on a Debian server?

im just trying our cloudmin and virtualmin atm and although from a customer side it is not as friendly as other panels i really like what you can do with it. From the admin site it is really easy to install - you all know that. On the other hand im just wondering if the are some settings you still need to adjust. So i just thought to ask you how you did your installs and if you did some adjustments outside virtualmin.

Heres what i did so far:

I have a DNS entry for helpdesk.test.ez-ms.com that is an A record and it resolves to the correct address (same address as ezupgrade.test.ez-ms.com)

I have a VirtualHost setup with a ServerName of ezupgrade.test.ez-ms.com.

I thought I could just add a ServerAlias helpdesk.test.ez-ms.com to the above ServerName/VirtualHost and it would serve the requests for helpdesk.test.ez-ms.com.

However, when I do curl helpdesk.test.ez-ms.com I get Unknown HTTP_HOST (helpdesk.test.ez-ms.com). returned from httpd.

Hi when Admin or root create servers for his clients, do his client have root access to the the server "when they log on virtualmin"? thank you
