Got a problem not covered by the docs? Don't know where to look in the docs or in the forums? All of the other forums over your head? If you're new to Virtualmin, this is the place for you.

firewalls?

Is my router (linksys) enough to keep intruders from hacking my linux box, or what do I choose in virtualmins listing for firewall. It tells me I dont have shorewall firewall installed, and in linux firewall in virtualmin it shows me

No IPtables firewall has been setup yet on your system. Webmin can set one up for you, to be stored in the save file /etc/webmin/firewall/iptables.save, with the initial settings based your selection of firewall type below..

dovecot problems

I finally installed the RHEL 64 version of Virtualmin Professional, and although webmin and virtualmin installed fine, I still have one serious problem.

Against the recommendation of the installer, I upgraded a GPL virtualmin install that was working and running cyrus-imapd. After the install, imapd was still there and dovecot was not installed. I used yum to uninstall imapd, and when I try yum install dovecot, I get:

How to check dynamic DNS

I have a router ( 10.1.1.1) to which is connected the Fedora box (10.1.1.6). Presently all zones files show addresses as 10.1.1.6. Router is set to 10.1.1.6 for its DNS with secondary to the ISP's DNS server.

I have installed the dynamic DNS option on both the router and the fedora box but am not seeing any changes in the zone files or anywhere else.

Hosting works within the LAN so virtual min is doing its job. Names resolve within the LAN.

Setting up a sub domain

I was going to release subdomains for people to use.

eg their_site.mydomain.com

Have added "their_site.mydomain.com" as a new virtual server

and added as a server within "mydomain.com"

Both options seem to work. However if they are a server within "mydomain.com" when they login they get access to "mydomain.com". Not what I was after.

But it is would be neater if the subdomains were nested.

What are experienced users doing? Which is the preferred path?

Can I help write support for Postgres in Virtualmin

The postgres database support option is "unavailable". I am hoping this is not a difficult add and would be willing to help pgm / debug.

Having written a lot of software I would not expect to take too long to get up to speed.

That said there is not ambition to re-invent the wheel and if there is existing code to work with or people who have started a simular task can you let me know?

Sincerely

Richard

Okay, ftp continues to not work...

Alright, I did the .99 update, thinking this might address some issues I had with ftp, but at this point, I continue to effectively be unable to connect via ftp to servers I freshly created.

This is on a virgin CentOS 4.2 installation, with VirtualMin Pro recently updated to 2.99.

I deleted the test domain I previously strggled with, in order to create it anew, to even eliminate the issues of permissions, etc...
