Got a problem not covered by the docs? Don't know where to look in the docs or in the forums? All of the other forums over your head? If you're new to Virtualmin, this is the place for you.

Couple of Questions - Hopefully basic

Ok so I've got my Virtualmin Pro server all setup and (seemingly) running fine.

I do seem to have a few problems and questions though.

[ol] [li]1: When I create a new virtual server it automagically adds all the DNS entries. This in itself is pretty cool, but help me understand what the "m.domain.com" entry is used for? I can't seem to figure out a reason for it. It creates "mail.domain.com" as well so i'm not sure wha the difference is.[/li]

[li]2: This is probably very basic, but I can't seem to find anywhere the settings for mail clients???[/li]

Help understanding "SubServers"

Hi Everyone,

We just purchased Virtualmin for use with hosting our domains and we're having a bit of trouble figuring out how subservers work and what exactly one would use them for?

Can someone help us understand this? I've used DirectAdmin in the past and they use "subdomains" (example subdomain.domain.com) but I figured I would just manually create a DNS entry for test.domain.com and setup my virtual server with an alias that responds to that for that domain, yes?

Thanks

no logging directive found in... [Resolved]

Creates a new server upload the information and I return this:

Creating administration group nome .. .. done

Creating administration user nome .. .. done

Creating aliases for administration user .. .. done

Adding administration user to groups .. .. done

Creating home directory .. .. done

Creating mailbox for administration user .. .. done

Adding to email domains list .. .. done

Adding default mail aliases .. .. done

Adding new virtual website .. .. done

Existing session not found!

It is like on TV, can you guess what I messed up now.. The only thing I know it is doing wrong, when I click "Switch To Server's Admin" I get a screen telling me ' Existing session not found! ' It is not a big deal, I sign out and login as the user it all looks fine.. But I can not switch to them when logged in as root..

I looking for other item that may be related to this problem but haven't found them yet.. Thanks Don

Network Interface

Still trying to resolve my initial issue.

I have a server, the ip is 123.123.123.123 The server is running webmin and virtualmin.

During virtualmin installation, I was told the network interface for virtual devices could not be detected and that I must define it manually.

I have 3 network interfaces:

lo 127.0.0.1 venet0 127.0.0.1 venet0:0 123.123.123.123

Which do I choose?

Setting up an SSL website?

Instructions on Virtualmin say that in order to setup an SSL website "this option must be set to Virtual interface with IP and an un-used address entered. Virtualmin will activate this IP on your system when the server is created, and associate it with the server"

Does anyone have an example of what IP address I should use? What is meant by an un-used address? My server currently has only 1 ip address associated with it.

What is the function of BIND DNS Server?

When I go to enable BIND DNS Server in the virtualmin plugins page, I get this error:

Failed to save enabled features : Virtualmin is configured to setup DNS zones, but this system is not setup to use itself as a DNS server. Either add 127.0.0.1 to the list of DNS servers, or turn off the BIND feature on the module config page.

My question is, what is the main function of bind dns? And do I need it in order to setup multiple domains on my server?
