Got a problem not covered by the docs? Don't know where to look in the docs or in the forums? All of the other forums over your head? If you're new to Virtualmin, this is the place for you.

Virtualmin Install Failure on Debian 4

Spent last several hours trying to get Virtualmin working on a fresh install of Debian Etch.

I just can't seem to get the install script to work. No matter what, it spits out the following:

Create Per-Directory, Files or Location Options

Hi,

I am trying to set an Apache directive from the Virtualmin control panel of User's VPS but don't know how to actually edit a directive or add an option to the directive once created.

In other words:

1) I created a VPS at 192.168.1.161 2) I login to the Virtualmin control panel for the recently created VPS (https://192.168.1.161:10000) 3) I created a new Apache Directive:

pam_unix(su:session) opened for user postgres every 5 minutes

Every 5 minutes I get this:

Aug 24 17:05:55 islamorada su: pam_unix(su:session): session opened for user postgres by (uid=0) Aug 24 17:05:55 islamorada su: pam_unix(su:session): session closed for user postgres

ran crontab -e and it looks like only /etc/webmin/status/monitor.pl is running every 5 minutes, and postgres is not running at all on my server.

Looked at monitor.pl and not don't see anything obvious that would make this call.

Just curious, what's it doing?

Thanks!

miniserv.pl problem

Over the weekend the load average on my server leaped from an average of 0.5 to 15, and got pinned there. The culprit was miniserv.pl. A dozen instances of this were running at 100% cpu usage. I changed the user password and killed all their instances of miniserv.pl, and life went back to normal for the server. Even during the peak of the problem, the server was still able to deliver email and web content without any noticable slowness.

CGI problems

I am migrating websites from a legacy system to our new ubuntu virtualmin server. The cgi-bin was in the document root on the old server. On the new server, the cgi-bin directory has been moved to the parent of the document root. cgi-bin is not under public_html, which is the document root for the website in apache. virtualmin has put some stuff in the new (parent) location, so I have no idea what the implications are of changing the cgi-bin directive in apache to point at the document root (old code location.) This will require me to recode all of the old cgi stuff!

One SSL cert for all virtual servers on the box

Hi,

Is it possible to use just one SSL cert (Godaddy) for all users/domains who log in to Usermin/Webmin services on the box or must each VS have it's own cert?

Bear in mind that I only want the cert to apply to WM/UM services.

So much reading my brain cannot absorb much more and perhaps I am loosing the plot.

Thanks for reading.

Spam filtering forwarded email

In another post it was established that email which is forwarded to another box does not get spam filtered.

There are times when filtering before forwarding would be desirable and I have found the answer. :o)

If emails are forwarded using the VM interface of the server, forwarded emails are not filtered.

However, if the forwarding is set up using the users Usermin login, forwarded email IS filtered.

Makes me one happy bunny ! :o)

Hope that is useful to someone else, it would be a nice change for me to put something back into the community.
