Creating Zone Files (using BIND) - how to batch create over 200 zones in one go

Forums:

I am moving servers and need to set up many hundreds of zone files on new server, ready for migration. The BIND control panel does not seem to have an option for creating loads of zone files from say a text list of domains. (All domains have the same template entires).

I have searched and searched for an answer, but no joy.

Anyone have a clue please. Prefer to have a text file listing all the domains and just run like a DOS batch file if possible.

Thanks in advance!

Unable to access Webmin following Update

Forums:

I stupidly performed an update on Webmin via the panel on a production VPS. Immediately after the update (no errors) I lost access to the web min interface with the browser reporting that access is being denied.

I tried rebooting the VPS but it's still not accessible. Cannot ping, cannot ssh. I'm currently logged via rescue mode. I even tried booting up with the VNC port provided by the VPS host (not sure exactly what its called) but even that does not work.

ProFTPD won't auto start on inetd mode

Forums:

I was using ProFTPD in standalone mode for a while and usually got a problem ProFTPD crash or shutdown occasionally.

So I switch to inetd mode and those problem gone.

However, I got new problem. After I restart my server, I will not able to connect to FTP. I have to switch ProFTPD to standalone and manually start ProFTPD once before switch back to inetd to get it work.

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 32bit on DigitalOcean

Tripwire reports daily changes of webmin files, is that correct?

Forums:

Hi,

I'm working on securing my servers and installed tripwire recently in order to watch for changing files.

In the nightly scan I get a lot of changed files like these: "/etc/webmin/apache" "/etc/webmin/apache/site" "/etc/webmin/security-updates" "/etc/webmin/security-updates/current-all.cache" "/etc/webmin/security-updates/current.cache" "/etc/webmin/security-updates/updates.cache" "/etc/webmin/status" "/etc/webmin/status/fails" "/etc/webmin/status/history"

IPTables default policy not showing on firwall page

Forums:

Just a quickie!

I have just been checking the IPtable stuff and note that nowhere on the IPtables config page does it say the current default policy. There is an input box to change the policy which I suspect also shows the current policy, but it is not clear. Thus I suggest:

Use the word "policy" somewhere as this is the accepted word for the default action mentioned in all the online tutorials.
Have a wee line at the top and bottom (next to the input box) stating the default policy to which all the other rules are effectively overriding. e.g.

Is this is a bug?

High CPU load, consumed mostly by "/usr/libexec/webmin/proc/index_cpu.cgi" -- what is this and what may be causing this?

Forums:

Hi there,

I have recently been noticing an odd behaviour which I don't believe I've seen before, although it's very possible it has been there since the beginning and I just never noticed. I looked at the top command for a while one day after receiving notifications from an external monitor that websites were a bit on the sluggish side and in the odd case just straight-up timed out.
