I thinking about using virtualmin for my main mail and web-server.

I would also like a backup mail (MX) server at a different location. Is virtualmin overkill for that purpuse ?

Does anyone know of other simple web-adminstered backup mail server software ?

Which linux distro sould I choose for an easy and problemfree virtualmin installation ?

Your quick guide suggests Fedora Core 4. Is that still the easiest choice ?

I'm running my IP through a router. After installation, it appears that postfix won't start up. I get a message stating that there's no local interface for my external IP address. My external IP address should not even be making it to my server. Instead, I should be seeing my internal IP.

I'm going to play a bit more tomorrow evening after I'm a bit more rested. But between now and then, if someone has a suggestion, I would not turn it down.

I know DNS is complicated...are you able to help me understand the journey? My overall objective is to serve websites for example.com, sub1.example.com, sub2.example.com, domain.com, sub1.domain.com, sub2.domain.com. My understanding is this:

1- Domain name example.com registered with registrar 2- Domain name delegated to Name Servers 3- Name server points domain to server with public IP 4- Server (with Virtualmin of course) serves pages with named based virtual hosts

I'm having a problem getting email users to be able to authenticate with Sendmail on port 25 when their username is their full email address. If I try making the username name#domain.tld instead of name@domain.tdl then it works; problem is I need compatibility with their old server so need to use the full address with the @.

What do I do?

Pretty new to all of this but getting there....I've searched the forums but can't find complete info I'm after.

I want to host one site with SSL and many others without. I believe I need an IP based virtual host. Does this mean a static external IP (I have only one)? And do I then need another external static IP for all other sites? If so, how do I have 2 static IP's?

When I create a new virtual server I am not able to tick the "SSL enabled website" option. Basically I'd like to know what I need to do for this option to be available.

Our server don't have FTP(ProFTPd) running, we use SFTP(FTP over SSH), root and all domain owners can log in just fine. If I enable FTP for a regular user or create a new FTP user they can not log in with SFTP.

We have some users that want to upload/downlod files to/from a "private" folder for use by their employees and we want them to have their own login, NOT the server owner login and pwd.

Is it possible to use SFTP/SSH for regular users with FTP access or for FTP users, or do I have to start up ProFTPd and use regular FTP?

I have a fresh install of Virtualmin Pro on an Ubuntu 6.0.6 server and after creating the first virtual domain, I tried to intsall SquirrelMail from the "Install Scripts" section.

I get the the folloing error:

"This script cannot be installed, as it requires PHP version 4 5."

How to I fix this?
