Got a problem not covered by the docs? Don't know where to look in the docs or in the forums? All of the other forums over your head? If you're new to Virtualmin, this is the place for you.

Issues with hostname/"fqdn" and post-install.

I have been able to successfully install several times, however, I am not sure I am setting the hostname correctly before install.

I am currently setting vmin up on at VPS via the install script. Of course, the script works beautifully. The only hiccups have come from a hostname the script really couged on.

I have read and read. I just want to possibly clarify with those of you in 'the know'.

Let's assume I own the following domain name: iownit.com

My VPS control panel allows me to set the hostname for the system at any time...

Questions about chroot and Virtualmin.

First and foremost, I am thrilled to have found the *min family of software. I am not a linux newb, however, managing a web-server at the depth I am managing at the moment IS new to me.

I can say I have been able to learn a lot just from the transparent fashion Web/Virtualmin operates on top of linux and other software.

bind

When I create a new virtual server my dns doesn't work until I delete it. The error pointed to tld.com.hosts. I compared it withe the rest of my prior working virtual servers and the difference was that it is adding my slave dns server address at the bottom line of the file:

Using Redmine

G'day all,

I've used the new script to install redmine after installing Ruby on Rails using a script too. Has anyone given this a go? I'm not an expert on RoR and have got this going before on a basic os x box, but I haven't done it before using virtualmin. Is there any configuration to do either before or after the script install?

Everything installed ok, and then it defaults to a URL of domain.com/redmine/login. This page only gives me an "500 Internal Server Error".

Any ideas?

Thanks, Nick

incoming mail, relay access denied

Been trying to figure this out...

On a shared ip, I have one domain that, when someone tries to mail to it, they get a bounce saying:

Final-recipient: rfc822; (username)@(domainname).org Action: failed Status: 5.1.1

Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 554 5.7.1 : Relay access denied

and I get a 'Relay access denied' message in the maillog. Like this:

sending mail not working since virtuamin & webmin

Hi,

surely a newbie question.

I didn't use the install script for installing both webmin and virtualmin, as I had some sites already configured on the server.

Importing virtual server seems fine.

However, on both imported virtual servers and non imported servers, no mail is being sent anymore. So in fact, the whole server (ubuntu 8.04) stopped sending mail (which it did fine before installing the mins).

How can I move users from old domain to new domain

I have a dedicated server and it was running on xwy.com domain as primary domain with name servers.

I wanted to change it to abc.com instead, domain already exists on server but wont work as primary.

So I renamed it to abc2.com and renamed xyz.com to abc.com. I updated the nameservers to.

It works now, but even though when I renamed it I changed the directory to a copy of the original abc.com the users are not showing.

install.sh improvements for Debian

Hello, At first, congratulations for an amazing software as Virtualmin GPL. I have been using it for 2 weeks now, and still thinks it took the right approach to solve many sysadmin tasks. Having used, for years, cPanel, Plesk and IspConfig, I can compare its features and approach. But it still has some improvements to be made. Installation and configuration at a Virtuozzo VPS running Debian 4.0 was difficult to accomplish correctly. I intend to write a detailed step by step about it at my blog. For now, I have a few suggestions to install.sh.
