Some pre-sales questions re: subdomains... etc.

---- Usage question: I'm building a site for a non-profit organization that is the parent of a bunch of sub-organizations (clubs). They want the ability to offer web hosting to their clubs.

Many of their clubs already have web sites. They have 185 clubs, and 30 of them have their own websites now. They want to offer the ability to have those clubs come on board on their server... These ones will already have a domain name they will want to point over.

Prepending db names

I have been trying to set up a template so that when a database is created, it prepends the name with the user's user name. I have been able to get this to work when Virtualmin creates the default database, but not when that user creates his or her own databases. I have entered "${USER}_" into the box beside of "Prefix for additional databases," but it doesn't work.

BTW, the documentation goes line by line how to set up a template, but skips right over this setting. Can somebody look into that?

Installing VM2 on Debian etch

Hi,

The installation doco for VM2 is highly CentOS/RH specific. VM and VM2 where almost enough to get me to install CentOS, but finding that CentOS do not support remote upgrades of major versions made me loe interest.

So some questions:

1) How do I install VM2 using apt-get instead of rpm/yum (ie are there equiavelent debs? What are there names?)

Import virtual server

Forums:

Hey, I just upgraded to Vurtualmin Pro, and will use it on a ready configured Apache ubuntu server with Postfix etc.

So I dont want to vreate a new virtual server. But it seems that I don't manage to import the ready configurations. I fill in the fields and press save. No errors reported.

But I dont get all the nice futures as creating new mailboxes, creating websited etc. as included as packages in Virtualmin Pro.

What is going wrong and where can I read more about this. I surfed arround the Docs. and did not find a good tutorial for a newbie.

DNS and SMTP

I am new to Virtualmin, but have gotten it installed and running fairly well on CentOS 5. I did have the problem with Dovecot after an upgrade, but I did manage to find a solution. It is still working.

I have 2 questions. I have searched the forums for answers, but either haven't found one that fits my situation, don't want to make mass changes to the format of logins, or don't understand the solutions.

Reseller Capabilites on Virtualmin Pro

Hello All,

Looking to get rid of Plesk completely. I am an avid Webmin user and have been for years. I have several resellers on our equipment and I need to see how Virtualmin handles this.

Also can Virtualmin Pro migrate User data from Plesk on a different server?

What I would like to do is upgrade some equipment at the same time that we make this move.

Please let me know your thoughts.

TIA

P.S. Tried to check out the demo server but it seems to be offline

Post edited by: bpmorin, at: 2007/12/05 14:35

Email problems!

Just coming over from the other thread which I've managed to fix myself...

When I create a user within a virtual server, it automatically creates the user to have a username of loginname.domainname (eg. johnsmith.jsconsulting). Is there a way around this [as you can't change POP3/FTP login names]? The only name that seems to be immune is the admin account.
