Hi,
I have VM GPL running on a little server hosting almost exclusively static pages for about seven sites. All of these are intentionally only for non-profit organisations. I want to migrate an existing site and the administrator of that site wants to know can I add in site search. I turned first to google and they say they have a deal for non-profits but every time I try to register they want to be paid. Perhaps I am doing something wrong; if anyone can direct me to better information I'd be much obliged.
What kind of site search engines are others using? and with what results?
Dave
We're using Google site search...but we're not a non-profit and are paying for it. I do remember seeing the for non-profits signup when I was setting it up, so it's definitely in there somewhere. There's also something in the help about it...you might want to search for it in the support section. I know it's in there somewhere, but it's been over a year since I set it up for Virtualmin.com.
In the past, I've also used htdig, swish-e, and Perlfect search. All choked on the sites I was using them on, eventually...but I tend to have very large sites to deal with. In the olden days, there were thousands of mailing list posts in the archives to be searched...and these days, there are about 20,000 pages total to be searched here (and growing fast). But, if you have less than a few hundred pages, any search engine should work fine, and not be too hard to setup.
