Script Installer

I have PHP 5 installed on the server (Ubuntu), and the application (Joomla) does support PHP5, however the script is looking for PHP 4 and failing the install process. I would like to take a look at the install script, and see if I can make it look for PHP 5 instead. Where are the install scripts located?
