I have postfix installed and it just won't send out any mail, from root (cron mails, status module mails etc) or from any vhosts. The system will receive mail ok.
This was a cpanel server from which I painstakingly removed all cpanels shit before installing virtualmin.
the error is:
Apr 30 14:51:30 secure2 postfix/smtp[[2016]]: connect to gsmtp163.google.com[[64.233.163.27]]: Connection refused (port 25) Apr 30 14:51:30 secure2 postfix/smtp[[2016]]: 38526D40E6: to=<homemachine@gmail.com>, relay=none, delay=24, status=deferred (connect to gsmtp163.google.com[[64.233.163.27]]: Connection refused)
Hey Tom,
I'm not sure what to make of that. It looks like it is trying to send and failing at Google's server...Could be a firewall issue. Maybe.
Try turning off the firewall temporarily for testing. Also be sure your router isn't blocking port 25.

Hi Joe,
It's failing at every server :(( that entry was just an example of what's happening.
I tried shutting down iptables but no difference.
This machine was sending mail ok with exim, it's just since I removed cpanel and installed virtualmin.
Postfix config is the same as my own machine.
I had to roll back perl from 5.8.6 to 5.8.0 and install all the cpan modules again if that makes any diff?
Perhaps you are using an ISP that is be blocking port 25 and requires you to send mail through their SMTP server? Many "residential" DSL providers do this now....
The machine is in a data center and was sending mail last week with exim.
It's weird, everything should be working.
you were right Joe, it was a combination of iptables and some exim stuff left over from the cpanel install.
