Yes, as Eric said: in case of any errors, the first thing to is - especially if some message tells you to - always to check the logs!
Means, it will save you (and us) time for the next problem report if you include log excerpts right away. Otherwise all we can do is suggest that to you. ;)
What errors do you see when logging at the mail log -- either /var/log/maillog, or /var/log/mail.log?
