I have installed virtualmin/webmin on a debian 5.0 Lenny server using install.sh and feel I have ended up with alot of extra services I dont need and whant to know if I can safely remove them and how
1st up what the server WONT be doing
Receiving emails
Hosting Mailboxes
Hosting DNS locally
PostGreSQL
What the server WILL be doing
Serving Websites
Apache
PHP5
Mysql
Sending emails
Virtual Servers/Hosts
Quotas
webmin/virtualmin
Based on this I dont think I need
POP3
POP3S
IMAP
IMAPS
Postgre
BIND
CLAMAV
SpamAssassin
Is this correct?, can I safely remove these? is so what is the best/easiest way
Thanks in advance
Howdy,
My recommendation would be to set anything you don't need to simply not start up, rather than removing it.
To stop the service, and remove it from bootup, you can go into Webmin -> System -> Bootup and Shutdown, and make the changes there.
In addition to the list of services you mentioned that you don't need (which appear correct for your requirements), you may also want to disable Mailman, you probably won't need that either.
