301 redirect how to

Hi,

Im trying to redirect www.domain.com to www.domain.co.uk in virtualmin. (permanent 301 I'm assuming)

I have looked through the forums and documentation and come to nothing!

Can someone give me a set of definitive instructions to complete this task. I assume its done in

Virtual Server/Services/Configure Website/Alias and Redirects/

and then something needs to go in "Permanent URL redirect" but i cant work out what is needed, i've tried:

domain.com --> http://www.domain.co.uk

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

For anyone having the same problem.

choose the master virtual server in the drop down list hit "create virtual server" in the right hand panel (at the top) choose "alias of domain.com" Fill in the details.....

If this isnt right for a 301 redirect can someone let me know.

Howdy,

Well, that can do a 301 redirect, if that's what it's configured to do :-)

How aliases are setup is defined in System Settings -> Server Templates -> Default -> Apache Website -- and you can tweak "Create alias websites by ".

Personally, I prefer "Adding ServerAlias to parent", but to use 301 redirects, you'd want to set it to "Creating permanent Redirect virtual host".

That setting will affect new Alias Servers, it won't change existing ones.

I am still finding no usable documentation for doing aliases and redirects in Virtualmin.

I have tried / and /public_html as a Permanent redirect to http://mydomain.com/site2, Apply Changes, Stop and Start Apache, and Firefox tells me that there is a loop, which will never resolve.

What is the right syntax in Aliases and Redirects to redirect http://mydomain.com to http://mydomain.com/site2?
