Joomla (direct) install - can't change file permis

As I wanted to use a joomla quickstart package, I manually loaded the pack onto the server as 'root' (yes, I ftp'd on as root!) and installed it fine. Other install.sh scripts have loaded up as the correct ftp user.

Now I try to add things, I cant - using Joomla's directory permissions indicator, everything is unwritable (755!).

Looking at other posts, I have set PHP script execution to 'FCGId (run as virtual server owner)'. I cant see any reference to suexec, though.

Any suggestions?

Ok, lesson learnt - dont use root.

Use the domain ftp account, as this workd fine!

Yeah, I suspect in your case that since root owned the files, you weren't able to do what you needed as your Virtual Server owner.

Glad it's working now!
