Remove mail servers, configure php for ext. smtp

Hi,

I'm using an external mail server (zimbra) on the same subnet as my virtualmin machine. Do I need sendmail and postfix? Or just sendmail? I need to be able to send mail through my zimbra server using authenticated smtp via tls. Also how do I remove Dovecot altogether?

Hi Tony,

One way to do that would be to disable Virtualmin's "mail" feature, and to setup all those accounts within Zimbra.

On your Virtualmin machine, you'll still want some form of mail server (for cron, so users can send email from web apps, and the like) -- though which server you use is up to you.

I like Postfix, and Virtualmin works well with it, but you could certainly use Sendmail too if that's your preference.
