Hello guys.
I currently have Webmin and Virtualmin installed and it works great, I mean IT IS AWESOME.
Now one of my friends would like to have access to one of my MySQL databases.
My question is, should I just make him a Webmin user and then click only allow the MySQL database module to show up? That would make him be able to edit all of the db right?
Or should I install usermin?
Is it possible to add a user in Virtualmin under a virtual server so he can only access that virtual server's db?
I already gave him an FTP account on one of my virtual servers. And I want to give him access to one of the databases under that virtual server.
Thanks!
That's actually fairly straight forward to do, and you might be able to tie in an FTP account with this as well if you like.
When you log into Virtualmin, choose the domain name you'd like him to be associated with.
Go into Edit Mail and FTP Users, and hit "Add a user to this server".
From that screen, you can add a user and tweak the permissions you want.
You can add him to any databases owned by that Virtual Server, you can give the account FTP permissions, and you can choose whether or not he should have any email access.

Hmm I can't seem to edit my posts here, it says I've hit a bug in the forum.
I only have 3 features enabled too.
Apache, Log rotation, and MySQL database.
Do i need to enable Webmin login?
Hmm ok I tried creating 'tempuser'. And I also enabled webmin logins.
When I try to login to the webmin panel, it's not letting me login with that username.
Do I login with just tempuser? Or tempuser.domain? tempuser@domain? Or what? Because I just tried it with plain tempuser + the password I specified and it's not letting me login.

The answer to that question could be "yes" in all cases. But, it depends on configuration.
You'll want to look at the "IMAP/FTP login" field on the Mail and FTP Users page.

Hmm I can't seem to find that one. That's in Virtualmin too right?
Yeah, even without mail enabled, you should be able to see that.
He's just referring to a column within the table when you click on "Edit FTP Users". The column will be labeled "FTP Login" -- that's what your user will use to log into the system.

I only have the EDIT FTP users.
That's okay, Email may not be enabled from that domain.
But within Edit FTP users, you should be able to create a database user (no, now that you mention it, that's not 100% intuitive :-) as well as an FTP user.

I think I got it to work.
I enabled webmin login, and then when I enabled it on that domain, I saw the EXTRA ADMIN section? That's where I added him since he'll be maintaining one of our main dbs for our website. Is this the right way to give it out?
You should be able to add FTP/database/Webmin users via the Edit FTP Users screen.
You should not have to use the "Extra Admin" function (which sets up the user with more permissions than they need for simple database access).
-Eric
Well when I make one with the adduser only, it adds them to the list but there's no webmin entry in the webmin users list. The only ones that are there are the domain owner and the extra admin.
