phpCOIN rude and crude moderators

If anyone uses phpCOIN and needs help -- beware, the moderator lightman is a very hostile and nasty moderator there as you can see at http://www.borgnet.net/rude_mod_lightman.html and read the last few comments. His assumption shows how much of a ass he is to anyone before he replies.

Even my secretary was shocked and we even donated to that Open Source project just yesterday. Simply nasty help there.

After I got online to reply to his nasty remarks to her "lightman" deleted the entire thread to hide is cussing and insults to her and his remarks.

I personally think we should remove phpCOIN from our installed scripts just for this fact. They are inconsiderate and really rude to end users.

ah...lifes...good

Ahem... let's not generalise here. In all fairness, there is only 1 "rude and crude" moderator... without the s. ;-)

Lightman: "...if more users started contributing instead complaining then maybe everyone would benefit."

This is the typical response you get from an overworked and underpaid (usually UNpaid) open source worker. At some point, you just lose it... you work so hard and spend so much time to produce something free for everyone to use... in return for nothing other than personal pride and satisfaction... only to be criticised for the nitties gritties... very understandable.

The moral of the story is... those who are still umming and arrring about paying up for good (open source or not) software like Virtualmin Pro... it will not be around for long as the originators seek better use of their time (i.e. financially).

The 2nd moral of the story is... one kind word can warm 3 winter months. Always start a feedback or criticism with a word of appreciation. Scott and pretty secretary, if you had mentioned that you donated to the project and appreciate the hard work of everyone involved, I am sure the response you get will be very different.

Hmm telling my secretary to stop bitching is pretty rude. And she wasn't. I would have replies with the same answer after being yelled at about bug reporting.

If the developer for the addon can't be located then the addon should be removed. It is, after all, a 3rd party addon and not official code.

You guys are both right.

There's a great quote from ESR's "How to Ask Questions the Smart Way" that applies pretty well here:

<i>Some people assert that many hackers have a mild form of autism or Asperger's Syndrome, and are actually missing some of the brain circuitry that lubricates &acirc;

I agree. I have Asperger's Syndrome but I am more of a prefectionist then anything else.

But being rude to end users doesn't help with getting donations either. The type of reaction we got is not one for supporting rude mods with any type of donation to the program/software. In other words we wouldn't want to give the impression that being rude is acceptable since it's a OSI software.
