Hi,
I'm setting up a Suse server that uses the standard (for Suse) Postfix + LDAP configuration. Anything is stored in the LDAP server including user accounts, email aliases, domains, etc.
Virtualmin can use Webmin's LDAP User feature and it works very well, however it expects the virtual alias to be in a hashed file rather than a LDAP source. That leaves me with no choice but keep users on LDAP and eMail aliases on file although it seems a bit tricky to make it work.
Is there any planned feature to allow Virtualmin to deal with mailboxes+aliases directly from an LDAP server? Am I correct in understanding that this feature is not currently supported?
Regards,
Marco
Hi Marco,
I like the idea of extending out the support of LDAP to include Postfix. It is probably not even a huge amount of effort (though also probably not tiny, since some things rely on the home directory existing somewhere Webmin can get at it). I'll file a wish for this in the bug tracker. No promises on when it might come into existence...but I suspect it won't be too long before it does.
Speaking of SuSE, I'm working on getting the installer running on it this weekend. Does anyone happen to know if yast handles dependencies automatically when installing RPMs? Our installer currently uses yum, up2date, or urpmi on Fedora, Red Hat, and Mandriva, respectively, and it seems like yast is the default SuSE installation mechanism. But I can't seem to figure out how to provide a yast repository or whether it can resolve deps automatically. A pointer to the appropriate documentation would be great...Google probably knows where it is but won't tell me with any query I can think of.

Any update on the LDAP +Postfix? Would love to have it for my migration, as I have a lot of code using LDAP to use emailaddress+password for logging into secured directories in websites.
