Having to rebuild a clients hosting server. It is really a mess. But when I create a backup for each virtual server, the files are owned by root but only have rw-r--r-- (0644) permission so they can't be copied, deleted or anything. Perhaps we waited too long to get him a new machine. This puts us in a real fix now with a new server standing by and no way to move the files off. The permission are set that way with Virtualmin File Manger or a command line, does not matter. Any thoughts on this mess?

I was finally able to change the permission. Should be off the server shortly, if the backups work as expected. Consider this crying wolf. Thanks.

Howdy -- you can reset the permissions by going into Limits and Validation -> Validate Virtual Servers -> Fix Directory Permissions.
It sounds like you may have that sorted out now, but perhaps this will help in the future :-)
