I have done 4 installs, everytime that I install on centos7 running inside of OpenVZ this error occurs when trying to set the password for Mysql.
After I hit the back button and try again it works to set the password. (it actually sets the password the first time but brings up this error so I have to hit back anyway and feel its best to use the "change to" option just incase)
DBI connect failed : Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
Status:
Needs work

This is during the post install wizard, also during one of my installs I tested setting the password later in the "set mysql password" and it wouldnt let me set it at all.
I ended up having to do a workaround by shutting down mysql, logging in as root with password disabled and creating an extra password.

Are the systems you are seeing this on just regular CentOS 7 installs, or is MySQL custom in any way?
