Hi,
I'm interested in Cloudmin Connect. I was intending to use Cloudmin Connect to manage multiple VPS's from a central control panel (like ISPConfig 3 does).
I read on the virtualmin pro sales page that its possible to control servers running plain linux (without a control panel). Are there any limitations to this? would it only be SSH? or would you have full functionality, as if the server had a control panel?
I'm looking to control/access the following on the remote VPS's:
-Update softwares (security)
-Manage database
-Add/manage domains
-Backups
-See resources/uptime/load etc
-Firewall / iptables
Also, do you need to install a client/ deamon on the remote VPS's with Cloudmin Connect?
Thanks
Sorry for the slow reply.
To answer your questions:
-Update softwares (security)
Yes.
-Manage database
Only if you install Webmin on the VPS systems. (It's free and small, so no reason not to. Other Cloudmin features work better/faster, anyway.)
That said, Cloudmin Connect also provides Cloudmin Services, which is super cool and convenient. It allows you to easily centralize your databases and your DNS servers and mail processing on systems separate from your Virtualmin systems (other tools could connect to the API for this, but no other control panels support it currently...I'm working on making this API more accessible, though, so folks who use other control panels can make use of Cloudmin Services for DNS, database and mail spam/AV processing).
-Add/manage domains
You'd need Virtualmin for this. Virtualmin GPL is free.
-Backups
Yes. It has more flexibility with Webmin and/or Virtualmin installed on the managed systems.
-See resources/uptime/load etc
Yes. Better with Webmin. Best with Virtualmin Professional (Virtualmin Pro gathers more data and provides graphs).
-Firewall / iptables
Not directly in Cloudmin. Webmin has a UI for several popular firewall options, however (including iptables, firewalld, and others). You'd have to link to Webmin on each host to do that.
I'm working on some docs and videos about Cloudmin Connect this week, so there will be more clarity about how it all works and what it can do.
