Cloudmin cannot connect to webmin via Firewall - Which ports need to be open?

Hi there,

I have cloudmin reporting that webmin is down on one of the managed servers. For the record, I just installed a firewall on the managed server, and I know the problem is the firewall because if I disable it, Cloudmin seems webmin running just fine.

Anyhow, these are the ports I have open on the managed server:

Common inbound (ingress) TCP ports

IG_TCP_CPORTS="21,22,53,80,443,10000,20000"

Common inbound (ingress) UDP ports

IG_UDP_CPORTS="53"

Are there any ports missing?

I am able to load the managed server's webmin fine by going to it's URL port 10000.

Thanks!

Webmin RPC uses several ports above whatever port it's listening on. So, I usually open 10000:10010, though it's unlikely to ever need all of those (but it'll definitely need 10001).

I updated the firewall rules to include the port range you mentioned, and it worked like a charm. Thank you very much!

I think this 10001-10010 thing deserves an FAQ entry. :) I had a similar issue a few days ago too.

We have Cloudmin host installation on OVH server and it is having a problem to see its guest system Vritualmins. Turning off firewall make the problem vanish. So by trying to open different ranges of ports, we could narrow the offending ports to 53600_53800. But what is strange is that narrowing further fails because apparently the ports which needed by Cloudmin host to see its guest system are constantly changing. I never saw this kind of problem before, so probably this is another peculiarity of OVH servers.

Edit: Offending port for one of the guest systems fall down to ~ 30 K, so I am starting to think there is no any range per se - something is constantly keep changing on OVH servers that block connection between Cloudmin host with its guest systems.

1.610, but this issue also has been resolved together with http://virtualmin.com/node/25189. In the end of the day the problem was not about dynamically changing ports. So my comment here can be ignored.
